Joel and Ethan Coen were on a tear there for a while, producing a film each year between 2007 and 2010 but it’s been a long gap since “True Grit.” Variety is reporting, though, that we’re getting close to an end to the gap.
“Inside Llewyn Davis,” the St. Louis Park natives’ ’60s folk-themed movie with Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac, will premiere in mid-May at the Cannes Film Festival and it will open in the United States in December (primed for Oscar consideration, some would say). CBS Films, which has picked up “Llewyn,” will released it in limited markets December 6 and expand to more cities December 20. One of those dates will be the local, Twin Cities dates. The first date would be just New York, LA and Toronto for most films but, because the Coens are from here, we’re often included in the first wave of dates. Either way, though, it will be an early Christmas gift for Coen fans. (A second gift around that time: A soundtrack, featuring Mumford and Sons and Justin Timberlake.)
