The last several movies by Joel and Ethan Coen have been big deals, with distributors attached from the moment filming began but they they went in a different direction with their latest — and, reportedly, possibly their oddest — film, “Inside Llewyn Davis.” They shot it quietly, with no studio involved, and it’s only today that we’ve finally heard who will be releasing “Llewyn.”
A drama with music about a Greenwich Village folk musician in the 1960s, “Inside Llewyn Davis” will be released by the relatively new CBS Films, which released “Seven Psychopaths” and “The Woman in Black.” Music for the film includes tunes from recent Grammy winners Mumford and Sons. There’s no date yet for the film, which stars Oscar Isaac (“Drive”), Carey Mulligan (the upcoming “The Great Gatsby”), Roseau native Garrett Hedlund and Justin Timberlake, but it has long been rumored that — like many a Coen movie — “Inside Llewyn Davis” will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, which take place in mid-May.
